About VSC

More than 80 years of playing in the snow

In 1938 a group of Scandinavian friends living in San Francisco started the Viking Ski Club. The tradition has carried on ever since.

Who we are

A club for everyone who loves the outdoors

Today's Vikings come from every background and every corner of the Bay Area. What we share is a love of the mountains — skiing and snowboarding in winter, and hiking, biking, climbing and swimming in mountain lakes in summer.

The club is social at heart. We meet every month, and members pitch in at summer work parties to keep the cabin in shape. The September picnic and our holiday dinner are highlights of the year.

The cabin

Our place on Donner Summit since 1946

The cabin sits on Donner Summit, close to Sugar Bowl, Donner Ski Ranch, Soda Springs and Royal Gorge, with the Lake Tahoe resorts a short drive away. There's parking at the front door and a full kitchen.

There's no big-screen TV — on purpose. Evenings are for board games, puzzles and good conversation around the wood stove.
